Way Beyond Goes Wayout

Way Beyond Goes Wayout, is a comprehensive survey exhibition by Australian Walking Artists Inc. and is the second exhibition for the national network. Walking as a creative practice takes us ‘way beyond’ time, beyond the artworld, beyond abilities, beyond challenges facing us today. Walking connects us to the past, the future, place, identity, and possibilities. It’s an optimistic action. President of Australian Walking Artists Inc., Molly Wagner, says the assembled works and walks highlight the rich diversity of creative walking practices within the Australian Walking Artists network. “We put one foot in front of the other, literally and metaphorically, in rural, urban, and suburban landscapes, to inspire hope.”Exhibition works vary from drawings to videos, textile works to sculptures. ‘Walkshops,’ and artist’s talks will feature in the public program.

Way Beyond Goes Wayout
sets an historical precedent in Australia as being the most comprehensive exhibition of Australian Walking Artists to date. Not since the 2018 Lismore Regional Gallery exhibition From Here to There: Australian Art and Walking, curated by Jane Denison and Sharne Wolff, has the spotlight been on what is more widely recognised internationally as a significant act to create artworks and address the topics of our times. The artists in Way Beyond Goes Wayout are members of Australian Walking Artists Inc.

The artists are: Leonie Andrews (ACT), Tracey Benson (QLD), Sandra Bridie (VIC), Renata Buziak (QLD), Helle Cook (QLD), Mick Douglas (VIC), Joolie Gibbs (QLD), Melinda Hunt (NSW), Annelies Jahn (NSW), Lisa Jones (NSW), Linda Knight (VIC), Bruce Mowson (VIC), Ainslie Murray (NSW), Sue Pedley (NSW), Perdita Phillips (WA), Jessica Raschke (NSW), Anke Stäcker (NSW), Rochelle Summerfield (NSW), Bianca Tainsh (QLD), Amy Tsilemanis (VIC), Nicole Voevodin-Cash (QLD), Molly Wagner (NSW), and Leanne Wicks (NSW), Therese Gabriel Wilkins (NSW).
